ADVENT AND CHRISTMAS AT LAKESIDE
Mark your calendars for some meaningful, fun activities!
The word “advent” in ancient times referred to a Roman Emperor’s arrival in Rome as the new emperor. The Emperor would enter the city with all of his glory, with captives of war, with the riches of the empire. The early Christians adopted this concept and applied it to the arrival of Christ, our King, and true ruler. Therefore, we celebrate Advent – a four-week time of preparation just before Christmas. It’s a time to prepare for Christ’s first coming as a baby. But it’s more than that. It’s also a time for us to remember his arrival in our lives as our savior and to also anticipate the second coming.
The following are some ways to make the most of Advent, which begins the first Sunday after Thanksgiving, November 29:

SONGS OF ADVENT AND CHRISTMAS
Our teaching time this Advent will focus on the songs of the prophets, Mary, the angels and others. A great way to prepare during Advent is to read the prophecies about the Messiah and the songs found in Luke and Matthew. Meditate on them and come prepared to sing anew about, to, for, and because of our Saviour Jesus.
