“We’ll always do what we value.”

What do you think about this axiom?

Certain things don’t get done because we just don’t value them; or at least we don’t value them above the things we value more.  If you value exercise at the same level you value making money, the exercise will get done, right?  If I am late, it is because I don’t value being on time more than something else (maybe sleep . . . )
I suggest it is the same way when it comes to loving God.  The more we really love God, the more we find that we grow to love and value the things that He loves.

14 Then we will no longer be immature like children. We won’t be tossed and blown about by every wind of new teaching. We will not be influenced when people try to trick us with lies so clever they sound like the truth. 15 Instead, we will speak the truth in love, growing in every way more and more like Christ, who is the head of his body, the church. 16 He makes the whole body fit together perfectly. As each part does its own special work, it helps the other parts grow, so that the whole body is healthy and growing and full of love.” - Eph. 4:14-16 (NLT)

Note especially verse 15:  truth begets love, which helps us become like Jesus.  What are the things you value?

The way we grow up in Christ and develop a deeper love for God is by valuing the right things.  What about my life?  Do I value God’s Word growing in me?  Do I value it enough to be reading it regularly?  Do I value walking in His strength, or do I value reliance on my own ability to make it all work out?  Can it really be said of me that I have first hand, personal knowledge of the Father?  When you stand before Him will you put your head down in shame and in unfamiliarity, or will you look into His eyes and upon His face with joy and recognition as you finally have the thrill of being in the presence of the One whom you’ve learned to love all these years?  I love God when I value the right things.
